NOTES FOR AUTHORS

This report records the status of your paper up to a point at which a decision is made and a letter or e-mail is sent to you.

Where you have submitted more than one version of your paper, please check first that you are viewing the correct report.

Once a decision on the paper is made and the Publications Office has been informed by the Adviser or the Editors, the information is logged into the database and that is the date recorded against the line "Decision letter sent to authors". Please allow a reasonable time for delivery of the letter before contacting the Publications Office. All enquiries should be addressed to publications@lms.ac.uk in the first instance, citing the reference number of the paper.

Should you withdraw the paper, the paper is listed as withdrawn.

No Editor's or Adviser's decision or recommendation is recorded on this report.

As is traditional with mathematics journals, papers are sent to only one referee at a time. Should the referee be unable or unwilling to complete his or her review of the paper, the paper is then sent to a second referee. Only referees who have agreed to review the paper are recorded on the schedule above and it may take the Adviser considerable time and effort to find a referee who is willing to review the paper.

Each paper is given a current periodical assignment according to its length, the Bulletin publishes shorter papers and surveys, the Journal medium size papers and the Proceedings publishes longer papers.

Papers are occasionally reassigned to another of the three periodicals (Bulletin, Journal or Proceedings) if the Editors wish, so the periodical assignment is only a guide. However, authors should not ask for the paper to be reassigned - the final decision is made by the Editors alone.

Six months after a decision is made and a letter sent to you, this report will be archived and no longer available on the web site.

When a paper has been accepted by the Society for the Bulletin or the Journal, the reports now record the production stages of publication and the reports will stay on the web site until six months after the paper has been published. Reports for papers accepted by the Proceedings Editors should be available from October 2003. If you have any queries in the event your paper is accepted, please contact the Publishing Editor via production@lms.ac.uk.
