The London Mathematical Society is a membership society for the advancement, dissemination and promotion of mathematical knowledge. It is the major British learned society for Mathematics, with a nationwide membership, as well as several hundred overseas members.
The standing and usefulness of the Society depends upon the support of a strong membership, to provide the resources, expertise and participation in the running of the Society to support its many activities in publishing, grant-giving, conferences, public policy, influencing government, and mathematics education in schools.
The Council therefore hopes that all mathematicians on the staff of UK universities and other similar institutions will support mathematical research by joining the Society. It also very much encourages applications from mathematicians of comparable standing who are working or have worked in other occupations.Ordinary Membership is available to:
Associate Membership is available to research students and others at the start of a career in mathematics (including its applications), who are studying for or are within three years (full time equivalent and excluding any career breaks) of obtaining their postgraduate qualification in mathematics, or who are in the final year of an MMath course.
Council also has the authority to elect Honorary Members from distinguished mathematicians who are not normally resident within the United Kingdom.
