2013 LMS Invited Lecturer

Professor Fegor Bogolomov (Courant Institute, NYU) will visit Edinburgh from 10-14 June 2013 to give a series of lectures on Birational Geometry and Galois Groups

Fedor Bogolomov will give a ten-lecture minicourse, at a level suitable for graduate students, on Birational Geometry and Galois Groups.  The lectures will discuss the relation between the structure of the Galois group of algebraic closure of a field of rational functions and the structure of the field itself. More precisely, they will cover how to extract effectively birational invariants (i.e. geometric invariants of projective models of the field from the Galois group).

There will also be supplementary lectures by:

G. Brown (Loughborough)     Fano 4-fold hypersurfaces

I. Cheltsov (Edinburgh)         Finite subgroups of Cremona group

T.  Logvinenko (Warwick)    Derived categories and Birationality

University and local Guesthouse accommodation will be available.

Limited financial support is available with preference given to UK research students. Please contact the organisers for further details: i.cheltsov@ed.ac.uk   J.Martinez-Garcia@sms.ed.ac.uk
