Group Head Council & Committees

The London Mathematical Society, the UK learned society for mathematics and research, is seeking an excellent administrator. The post has two distinct but complementary functions. First, the post holder will head the Society’s Council & Committees Group which is responsible for two highly important activities of the Society – education and research. The post holder will oversee and drive forward the work of the Group, developing objectives and strategies in conjunction with Society members, and implementing developments and changes in policy. Second, the post holder will play a major role in the management and operation of the Council for Mathematical Sciences which acts as the collective voice of the UK mathematical sciences societies. The role helps coordinate the strategic voice of these societies in order to influence and shape national policy for the mathematical sciences.

The successful candidate will be an excellent organiser and manager with superb written and oral communication skills, able to work independently and to tight deadlines. Whilst a degree in mathematics, statistics or a related area would be useful, more important is an interest in and sympathy with the mathematical sciences and an ability to assimilate quickly the key policy issues affecting the research and academic sectors in these disciplines.

Initial salary according to experience in the range £31,700–£39,000. Excellent working conditions and a final salary scheme pension plan.
