Professor Gwyneth Stallard, Chair of the LMS Women in Mathematics Committee, and Professor of Pure Mathematics at the Open University, and Dr Eugenia Cheng, Senior Lecturer in Mathematics at the University of Sheffield appeared on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour.
Professor Stallard and Dr Cheng discussed the reasons for the low numbers of female mathematics professors in UK mathematics department and what might be done to improve their chance of success. A recording of the interview is available here

The next Women in Mathematics Day will be a two-day event on 18th-19th April and will be held at the Isaac Newton Institute in Cambridge. Sessions will include talks by women mathematicians at different career stages and a poster session. Some of the talks given at the event will be streamed live on the INI's website on 18th and 19th April, you can watch these here.

Over the last year the focus has been on developments to the Society’s website which enable members to engage more directly with the site and improve navigation within the site. The list below includes some of the main areas of the site which are currently receiving attention.

The LMS launched its report Advancing women in mathematics: good practice in UK university departments at the House of Commons on 27th February.
The event was hosted by Andrew Miller MP, Dr Julian Huppert MP and Stephen Metcalfe MP, with guest speaker Margaret Wright of the Courant Institute, New York University and Chair of the International Review of Mathematical Sciences 2010.

The BBC broadcast a programme on Radio 4 on Sunday 11 March 2013, presented by the distinguished historian Professor Lisa Jardine, about the outstanding achievements of Mary Cartwright, the first female President of the LMS.
