NEW: Mathematika

We have great pleasure in announcing that, beginning in 2010, the LMS will be publishing the journal Mathematika on behalf of its owner University College London.

Mathematika publishes both pure and applied mathematical articles and has done so continuously since its founding by Harold Davenport in the 1950s. So far, it has not been published online, but from 2010 all articles, including the full archive dating back to 1954, will be available electronically via Cambridge Journals Online.

Submissions.  You are invited to submit papers to Mathematika via the submissions web page (www.lms.ac.uk/publications/matsubmission.html). The traditional emphasis has been towards the purer side of mathematics, but applied mathematics and articles addressing both aspects are equally welcome.

The Mathematika Editorial Board is:
Keith Ball, Imre Bárány, Marianna Csörnyei, Timothy Gowers, Francis Johnson, Minhyong Kim, Yaroslav Kurylev, Imre Leader, Peter McMullen, David Preiss, Frank Smith, Alex Sobolev, John Toland, Jean-Marc Vanden-Broeck and Robert Vaughan.

Journal of Topology

The London Mathematical Society launched a new journal in 2008, called the Journal of Topology, which publishes four issues annually. Further information may be obtained here.

LMS Council Statement on Pricing Policy

Recognising the importance of the dissemination of mathematical knowledge, the threats of rising prices of journals and falling library budgets, and the Society’s objectives of increasing its support for mathematical activities, the Council of the Society will continue to seek to expand its activities in publishing but intends that the prices of its journals should not rise in real terms (against inflation) except in as far as there is added content or value.

Journals

The Society publishes five journals: the Proceedings, Journal and Bulletin of the LMS (published since 1865, 1926 and 1969 respectively); the online-only LMS Journal of Computation and Mathematics (since 1998); and the new Journal of Topology (since 2008).

With start in January 2010, the Society will be publishing Mathematika on behalf of its owner, University College London. Further details may be found here.

Since January 2004, the Society also publishes Compositio Mathematica on behalf of the Foundation that owns the journal. Further details may be found here.

In collaboration with the Institute of Physics, the Society also publishes Nonlinearity (established 1989). Further information can be found here.

Book Series

The Society publishes four book series: a series of Monographs, a series of Lecture Notes, a series of Student Texts, and (jointly with the American Mathematical Society) the History of Mathematics series.

Translations

The Society co-publishes four translations: Russian Mathematical Surveys,  Izvestiya: Mathematics  and  Sbornik: Mathematics (jointly with the Russian Academy of Sciences and Turpion Ltd), and Transactions of the Moscow Mathematical Society (jointly with the American Mathematical Society).

Newsletter

The LMS Newsletter is published monthly except August, and is distributed free of charge to members of the Society.

Many of these publications are available to members at special rates, on the understanding that they are for the personal use of members, not for libraries. (Council reserves the right to refuse such publications to any member whose institution does not already subscribe.)

Publish with the LMS

There are four separate processes for publishing with the LMS.
