Publish With the LMS

There are three separate processes for publishing with the LMS. This page refers only to the submission of proposals and manuscripts for publication in book form.

Submission of Book Proposals and Manuscripts

If you are planning to write a book you may wish to consider the advantages of publication with the London Mathematical Society. The Society, a non-profit organisation owned by its members, aims to disseminate mathematical knowledge as widely as possible, in the interests of its members and the international mathematical community.

To this end, it sponsors four book series: the LMS Monographs, the LMS Lecture Notes, the LMS Student Texts, and the History of Mathematics Series (published jointly with the AMS). The Society appoints Academic Editors and Advisors for each series to take responsibility for ensuring high academic quality. It uses the expertise of a number of professional publishing houses (Cambridge University Press, Princeton University Press and the American Mathematical Society) to produce, advertise and distribute its books.

In addition to competitive royalty rates, the Series Publishers and Editors offer advice to authors throughout the whole process from writing to publication and ensure wide marketing. In addition, books are advertised through the Society's annual Publications Catalogue and monthly Newsletter of the LMS. Members can purchase volumes at substantial discounts.

The Society aims to ensure that speedy decisions are made on all manuscripts and proposals offered. In general, a proposal should consist of an explanation of why the book is being written and for whom, some sample material, and a brief description of the background and expertise you can bring.

Any Editor will be delighted to give you further information and advice about their series; alternatively you may contact the LMS Publisher (Susan Hezlet, London Mathematical Society, De Morgan House, 57-58 Russell Square, London WC1B 4HS, England) for general guidance on which series may be the most suitable home for your book.
