AcadMathSci: Maths Manifestos for Scotland and Wales

Last week, the Academy for the Mathematical Sciences published Maths Manifestos for Scotland and Wales.

The Scottish manifesto champions Scotland’s long and proud mathematical heritage, from the symmetry of Neolithic stone balls, through the work of Napier and the mathematical thinking that informed the Scottish Enlightenment, to the education system and the world-leading research being undertaken in Scottish universities today.

The Welsh manifesto builds on a rich mathematical heritage stretching back to the introduction of the equals sign by Tenby’s Robert Recorde in the 16th century.
