Deadline: 11 January 2026, 23:59 (GMT)
Nominations are invited for London Mathematical Society prizes in 2026. The prizes celebrate outstanding achievements in mathematics and contributions to the field.
Pólya Prize: awarded in recognition of outstanding creativity in, imaginative exposition of, or distinguished contribution to, mathematics within the UK.
Fröhlich Prize: for original and extremely innovative work in any branch of mathematics. The prize is awarded to mathematicians with fewer than 25 years (full-time equivalent) of involvement in mathematics at a post-doc level.
Shephard Prize: for contributions to mathematics with a strong intuitive component which can be explained to those with little or no knowledge of university mathematics. The prize is awarded for a specific piece of work, but there is no requirement that the work be published by the LMS.
Senior Anne Bennett Prize: for work in, influence on or service to mathematics, particularly in relation to advancing the careers of women in mathematics.
Whitehead Prizes: for work in and influence on mathematics. Up to six prizes are awarded to mathematicians who have fewer than 15 years (full-time equivalent) of involvement in mathematics at a post-doc level.
Senior Berwick Prize: awarded to the author(s) of an outstanding piece of mathematical research published by the Society between 1 January 2018 and 31 December 2025.
We strongly encourage nominations for women and other underrepresented groups in the mathematical community. The Prizes Committee interprets the criteria for all prizes broadly, so if in doubt please submit a nomination.
Note: prize nominations are considered for two rounds, so any nomination that was submitted in the last round and is still eligible will be considered. If you have previously nominated a candidate who is still eligible in the current round, you can send a written update on the nomination to prizes@lms.ac.uk.
