Please use this form to apply for one of the following membership types: Ordinary, Reciprocity, Advanced Post-doc, Associate, Associate (Undergraduate), Retired, Worldwide Access and Worldwide Access (Reciprocity). Further details about each membership type are available here.

Please be advised that LMS Membership is an annual subscription with the membership year running from 1 November - 31 October. Subscriptions can be automatically renewed with prior notice given by the Society approximately one month before the start of the new membership year.

If you are affiliated with a UK Mathematics Department and require a proposer or seconder, you may locate your LMS Representative here. Alternatively, if you not know a current LMS member to act as your proposer and/or seconder, please write "LMS Officer" in the relevant fields and we will ask a member of Council to review your application and act as the proposer/seconder.

Please note that we do not request payment of membership fees at the time of application. Instead, new members will receive a subscription form after the next election date, which will be held on 20 November 2026 at the LMS Annual General Meeting 2026 at the BMA House in London and online via Zoom. Full details of membership fees are available here. To ensure your application is considered, please complete and submit your application form by 16 November 2026.

Proposer

The LMS requires candidates for Ordinary, Advanced Post-doc, Retired, Associate and Associate (undergraduate), Worldwide Access Membership to be proposed and seconded by members of the Society.

Ideally your nominated proposer should be your head of department or LMS representative (if you are attached to a UK university, you can find your LMS Representative here), or another LMS member who knows you personally.

An applicant whose Head of Department or LMS Rep is not a LMS member or who otherwise has difficulty in finding a proposer should enter "LMS Officer" and a brief note under "How long has she/he known you?" to confirm that they are happy for their application to be reviewed by an LMS Officer. Your application form will then be forwarded to an LMS Officer for review.

Seconder

If you are unable to find a seconder, please enter "LMS Officer" and a brief note under "Knowledge of Candidate" that you are happy for the application to be reviewed by an LMS Officer.

Where the seconder is listed as "LMS Officer", your form will be forwarded to an LMS Officer to act as seconder.
