Mathematics Education

The London Mathematical Society has a major commitment to mathematics education.

The LMS Education Committee is involved in a wide range of activities, from supporting mathematical education in schools, colleges and universities, to encouraging the public and young people to appreciate and engage with mathematics. It ensures that the views of the Society on mathematical educational issues are made known to decision makers and works to promote the public image of mathematics.

See below for further information on the wide range of activities and support offered by the Society.

Grants

The LMS Education Committee runs three grant schemes which aim to support colleagues building a teaching and scholarship profile within higher education mathematics. The central aim of these schemes is to support the ‘Pathways in Mathematics’ strategic goal of the LMS Strategy 2023–2028. As such, they seek to:

Promote the importance of mathematics and the provision of opportunities for those that wish to study and develop a career in mathematics and its applications’.

See details of the three schemes here.
