Become an LMS Student Representative

The London Mathematical Society (LMS) invites passionate undergraduate and master's students in mathematics to become LMS Student Representatives and be an ambassador of the Society amongst student’s community and its members at a local level.

Who Can Be a Student Rep?

To become an LMS Student Representative, you must be:

  • An undergraduate or master’s student studying mathematics.
  • An LMS Associate or Associate (Undergraduate) Member.

Please contact your LMS Rep at the department to be nominated for this role.

If you are not LMS member, please complete online application form to be elected a member at next election. See more information on how to join

The LMS will cover the cost of Associate/ Associate (Undergraduate) member fee for Student Representatives whilst the student is an LMS student representative.

What Does a Student Rep Do?

Working closely with LMS Rep at your department Student Reps will

Promote LMS Membership

  • Share the benefits of joining LMS with your peers
  • Help students navigate the application process
  • Encourage membership amongst student's community by encouraging to join and continue the membership

Publicise LMS Events

  • Spread the word about lectures, workshops, and conferences
  • Motivate students to participate in national and local events

Act as a Local Contact

  • Be the go-to person for LMS-related queries at your institution
  • Support fellow students in accessing LMS resources and opportunities

Student Representatives Fund

Funding of maximum £300 per event is available for organising student-led social activity that could include coffee mornings, drinks receptions or other informal gatherings.

  • Total fund: £3,000
  • Applications open: September 2025
