The LMS Council has set up a COVID-19 working group to look at how the LMS can best support the mathematics community in these very challenging times. The Working Group has consulted the LMS Membership directly and through the network of LMS Representatives.
One of the first things the Working Group has done is to launch new discussion threads on the LMS Members’ Blog so that Members can share their experiences and ideas, including on ways of teaching, assessing and collaborating online. Please get in touch if you haven’t already, to let us know what you think and how we can help.
In response to a proposal from the Working Group, Council has agreed to offer further financial support to Scheme 3 research groups and to make funding available for more Early Career Fellowships. In addition, the Working Group is concerned about the longer term impact of COVID-19 on equality, diversity and inclusion in the mathematics community - it is clear that the pandemic’s impact is being felt unevenly not just across our Membership, but across society. Please also use the new threads on the LMS Members’ Blog to let us know what you think the LMS could do in these areas.
