The Royal Society has released details of its newly elected Fellows which includes several mathematicians.
Mathematicians elected this year include Professor Mike Giles (Oxford), Professor John King (Nottingham), Professor Mark Lewis (University of Victoria, Canada), Professor Jason Miller (Cambridge), Professor Andrew M. Pitts (Cambridge) and Professor Reidun Twarock (York).
The Science Library at University College London, which houses the LMS library and journals, is undergoing some major refurbishment/building work this summer, and will be closed to all patrons from 9 June to 5 August.
The Council for the Mathematical Sciences (CMS) has now formally transitioned into the Learned Societies Forum (LSF) of the Academy for the Mathematical Sciences.
The CMS played a pivotal role in uniting the Learned Societies and laying the groundwork for the Academy. Its transition into the LSF is a natural evolution, reinforcing the Academy’s role as the national voice for the mathematical sciences while strengthening vital partnership across the breadth of the community.
